Honeymoon in Vegas, Baby

Who says "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" anyway?  I'm gonna go ahead and tell you what really happened in Vegas!  Pam and Ron celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Oct 9 so they decided to renew their vows with Elvis in Las Vegas!  And, they unwittingly picked Tom & my anniversary to do it on, so no we all have the same anniversary along with APQ editor Jennifer Keltner!!  It was something of a family reunion plus family friends.  We all had a great time!  I made her a tie-on train from a plastic backed tablecloth fabric so I wouldn't have to finish the edges then added ribbons that everyone could sign with good wishes!  And as part of the package, Ron got that handsome, sparkly tie!!  All three of Pam's girls and their husbands were in the bridal party and my 21 year old son was the ring bearer!  Elvis did a great job and even made us all cry as he was singing "I can't help falling in love with you" as he walked her down the aisle.  It was great fun!

It was my kid's first time in Vegas and the only thing they wanted to do was jump off the Stratosphere....oh my goodness....but after I watched a few people jump, and after I'd checked out the cables and their safety record, I thought that even I might have fun!  But I wasn't feeling well.  I know everyone thinks the Vegas trip is what did me in, and maybe it was but that was when our nurse/practitioner sister saw me in action and said enough!  You're coming to see me and we're gonna figure out what's wrong with you (medically speaking:  there's lots that's wrong with me in general!  How could she possibly choose?)  Anyway, here's a video of Ross's jump.  They even supply lounge chairs so you can lay back and watch and/or video.  I started with Tom lounging in his chair: it's a family joke, since he's known to pass out in certain situations, like when I was having babies or the kids were getting stitches!

Final Day: Henry Glass Jolly Holiday Party

Four All Seasons Winter
It's beginning to look a whole lot like Christmas!  And a white one at that!  We might all get to play in the snow on Thanksgiving Day and maybe even build a snowman!  I just had to share this quilt with you:  I think the snowmen on this "ForAll Seasons Winter"  are adorable and the stars are fun too because they are dimensional.

prize pack: your comment enters you to win!
I wanted to thank all of you who commented on yesterday's post.  So glad you are all having fun and liked our coasters!  I intended to thank Kari Ramsey in yesterday's post because without her step by step instructions, I wouldn't have been able to get my pattern to download for all of you.  So thanks a bunch Kari!  I will pick a winner on Monday morning, the 21st so you can still post to "Today is Our Day" and get entered to win our prize pack.  There's a book of Annie's, my favorite punch-needle kit of Jacquelyn's, that very cute Santa kit of Leann's, Jill's Citrus Salad pattern that's perfect for her fabric pack she's giving away, a couple of patterns of Carrie's (Miss Rosie) just because I'm missing having her on the hop this year, Our new 2012 calendar and one of our books..."Positively Crazy" has "Santa Baby" in it and everyone loves it but duh! I forgot that "Still Crazy" has both "Tom Turkey" and "We've Been Good All Year" in it so I may change....that will be a little surprise as to which one you'll get!  Oh and tucked over there is a  very cute Advent tree pattern of Annie's.  Hope everyone has had a terrific time on the hop! But wait!  You're not done yet!!  This final day brings us to Linda and Chelsea.     And remember, I do link titles and the names.  Any time text is a different color, that means it's got a link attached,  so just click and go!  Have fun with these ladies; I can't wait to see what they have in store!

Today is our Day!

Christmas Poinsettias Wool Mat
Goodness, it's my turn , and as usual, I'm running a bit late, but in our family, we're always ready for a party.  This time, it's the Henry Glass Jolly Holiday Party, and what a party it's been!  I know you've all been having as much fun as I have hopping to everyone's site. But today it's my turn!  I'm Janet, and together with my sister Pam, we own and operate our quilt store, Buggy Barn, in Reardan, WA. Because we live and operate our store out on the edge of nowhere (in God's country!), we developed our trademark "crazy" patterns to try to get you all to stop by for a visit, but everyone just wanted the know-how and so our pattern business began!  Then Alice, from Little Quilts, introduced us to Larry at Henry Glass and we've been designing fabric with them since 2003.  We've got some questions we're suppose to answer so I'd best get to it!

Crazy Tom Turkey
1.   What is your favorite holiday food? Well since we usually only eat it twice a year, at Thanksgiving and Christmas, I have to go with turkey.  I have fond memories of snitching the juiciest bites as Dad was carving!  I must admit, I also have a terrible weakness for Christmas cookies.....
2.  Does your family have a favorite holiday tradition?  Really, family has always been the tradition.  The more the merrier!
3.  Did you like or hate sitting on Santa's lap?  I was always scared of Santa.  I remember one year, I finally decided I was old enough and that this was my year to finally sit on Santa's lap. Mom and I waited in a very, very, long line until it was finally my turn.....and guess what?  I never have sat on Santa's lap!
4.  Was there a gift that I really desperately wanted and did I get it?  Oh probably....my sisters would ALL say absolutely since they think I've always been spoiled.  I still have a gift box from my favorite clothing store when I was in high school.  In the bottom of the the box is writtern in my mom's handwriting: "Merry Christmas Janet- Christmas for you wouldn't be complete without something from La Chapina so here's a box."
5.  What's your favorite holiday movie?  It's "White Christmas" because I was always dreaming & hoping for a white Christmas; I still do, but now I'm showing my age and I'd just rather it didn't stick around quite so long!
6.  Favorite holiday song?  We'll, you'd think it might be "White Christmas" but I have this " Home Alone 2" CD that I love to listen to as I cook.  It's also good for blasting when it's way past time for the kids to get up on Christmas morning....since we go to church on Christmas Eve, that's become a bit a tradition for them....being awakened to the soundtrack of "Home Alone 2".....  Blasting Silent Night just doesn't get the same results!!   My very very  favorite, though, is "O Holy Night"
7.  Do you make many holiday presents?  What do you like to give?  Well, it sounds all well and good to make my holiday presents but when would I fit that in?  I do love to give and enjoy discovering that perfect something when I'm least expecting it.  We also like to give back and try and volunteer together as a family around Christmas when the kids have school break.
8.  Would you prefer a large fully decorated tree or one like Charlie Brown's tree?  It's probably more like Charlie Brown's since I like decorating with all the ornaments my kids have made over the years.
9.  If you could go back in time, when would you say was your most favorite holiday memory? I know you've all heard it before but it's my favorite! If there's snow, we like to play in the snow.  One year, when Pam's girls were little, we'd lay down on the sleds and let the little ones ride down on our backs.  Well, my Uncle Jess made the mistake of heading down the hill by himself, and we just couldn't allow that!  So as we're walking back up the hill and Jess came by, we all hopped on, one after the other.  Now we've never been petite, and when that poor man had three of us piled on his back, he couldn't even hold his feet up off the ground and ended up wearing holes in the toes of both of his brand new Christmas boots!
10.  Do you like a big family gathering at the holidays or.....we can just stop right there as I'm sure you've gathered we like big family gatherings!  However, we have been known to enjoy a HOT BUTTERED RUM (my secret word) at the end of the day.

Now we can't forget the free project.   I was thinking gift giving when I was deciding on a project..Hope you all enjoy our "Christmas Coasters".  Don't forget to collect all the secret words, one for each of our postings.  Go to the Henry Glass blog between November 20026, 2011 and post the complete list to be entered to win the grand prize fabric give-away.  We will be including a fat quarter bundle of our newest, not yet in stores, fabric line, "Put Your Heart in It". Henry Glass has generously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds of sales from "Put Your Heart in It" to breast cancer research

We've Been Good All Year!
This holiday season, be sure to put your heart in it and give a gift of time and love.  May you all have fun filled holidays, full of laughter and good cheer!  And let's hope, you've all been good this year!  And because I know each every one of you have been exceptionally good all year, Pam & I will be giving away a prize package of goodies from some of your favorite Henry Glass Designers.  Just comment on this post and you will be entered to win!

Hope everyone is having fun!  Be sure to continue the party and hop over and visit:

Snow Day

No, we haven't actually had any snow yet, but I do have a bad case of cabin fever!  I've been sick and it's taken a bit to figure out why but they took my gallbladder out and now I'm feeling much better!  While I've been sitting around recuperating, I started my "Snowflake" quilt.  It's a combination of cotton and wool and I love it!  I don't do much embroidery work and wasn't exactly looking forward to that part of it, but I actually really enjoyed embroidering with the yarn. It adds another dimension and I really think it's cool the way it's turned out.  This was also the first time I've tried the wool thread that Sue Spargo recommends for wool applique and it's also very nice to work with.  As usual, I didn't exactly follow the directions....the pattern called for making "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" blocks and I was feeling too lazy to do all that piecing so I just cut a large square of background and appliqued an entire circle on it and went on my merry way!  Another great notion for wool is the "Quilter's Choice" glue.  It holds really well; I was a little concerned as ran a line of glue down the arm of the snowflake knowing I was going to have to embroider over it, but I didn't even notice the glue.  One last notion that I think you need for this project is what Mom use to call her "crowbar" needle threader; it's really handy when trying to thread the yarn.  I think this is one of those projects you are just going to have to have- I know I do!

I've also been doing a bit of reading while I've been in and out of doctor's offices or languishing on the couch!  It was another of those "that looks like our Buggy Wheels quilt" in American Patchwork and Quilting's  "Sew Scrappy Volume 2" and guess what?  It was! I am just so UN-informed! Anyway, they've remade it in reproduction blues and creams and call it "'round the Stars".  It looks great!

Then there's a fabulous article about our quilt show in the December issue of Mary Janes Farm magazine.  How nice of them to include us!

And finally, our newest book, "Crazy for Applique" has been delivered!  I was a tad tardy getting it to the printer.....really, I'm very lucky that it's even done right now!  If not for the help of Sandi and Val who appliqued nonstop for several days (I'm sure their fingers must have been bleeding!), it still wouldn't be done!  Then at the zero hour, Gloria and Pam pitched in to help finish the applique so Karen could quilt all weekend for picture day on Monday- yes, they are naked without their bindings! I'm blest to have all these great people that willing step into my nightmare to "get 'er done!"  I'm thankful indeed!
Crazy Rambling Rose
Garden Party
All this hurry, hurry, stress, and worry and I didn't even get to go to Market!  It's the first one in 32 markets that I've missed but Pam found lots to bring home!  And just so you can be informed, I put a dark red binding on "Garden Party" and dark gray on "Rambling Rose"!  So now it's back to work for me.....uunfortunately, it all didn't magically disappear while I wasn't looking.....darn!  Oh, and be on the look out!  The Henry Glass Designers will be starting a blog hop on Sunday, November 13.  Yes, that's this coming Sunday!  More details to follow, once I located those details on my desk!  Will be talking to you soon!
